Future of gaming & society

At bwin.party we believe in progress and our willing to take up challenges. Thus we also engage in socio-political questions of our digital age.

More than ten years ago we believed in the powerful medium of the internet when we started to transform one of the most traditional business models - gambling for real money - into completely new, exciting and safe form of entertainment. Today, as bwin.party, we still believe in transformation and integration: we, together with millions of customers are an important part of a society which – inspired by the technological development of the internet for recreational purposes – is increasingly becoming a digital society.

Geographical borders are starting to become blurred in this, the next, networked society, and new structures and forms of communication and collaboration are taking shape.

We are a part of these developments, and, as the leading company in our industry, have changed not only the nature of entertainment, but also the paradigms of corporate responsibility and scientific research. We are therefore only too well aware of the fact that these new opportunities also represent new challenges. As a responsible multinational company focused on sustainable business success, we can only coexist with society and are therefore open to dialogue and challenge.

Together with the best brains of our age, we seek answers to questions relating to socio-political developments.

• Can the mechanics of gaming help solve social problems?
• Will this playful approach to serious tasks also change our understanding of how we work together?
• What new importance will be attached to money and currencies in these contexts?
• And what effect will all this have on the future of gaming?

We are currently discussing these and other themes with students at the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen where Professor Dirk Baecker runs a seminar in which possible scenarios for the future of collaborative work, money and gaming in the transition from the modern to the next society are being debated and discussed, and ideas developed, openly and without prejudice, but also critically and provocatively.
